Golden CO (SPX) Feb 07, 2008 A 40 kilowatt solar electric system installed by Bella Energy in partnership with Next Generation Energy powers pet toy manufacturer Kong Company at their headquarters and manufacturing facility in Golden, CO. Made up of 228 Conergy 175 watt modules the photovoltaic system covers 4,750 square feet of the building's flat top roof, installed at a south facing 10 degree angle to collect energy from the sun. In 1976, Joe Markham, President of KONG Company, developed and manufactured a super-strong rubber toy inspired by watching his dog chewing joyfully on a rubber car part. Today, Markham continues to successfully sell this toy as well as many other products worldwide. This flat roofed solar system is unique because it is ballasted, or weighted down with heavy concrete pavers, so the solar panels won't fly off in the wind, eliminating the need to penetrate the roof seal. Whether a company is concerned about the effects of their company's energy use on the environment, the rising cost of energy or the insecurity of U.S. dependence on foreign oil, it makes good business sense to fill empty flat top roof space with energy producing solar panels. System Specifications: - Sized at 40 kilowatts DC - Produces approximately 54,000 kilowatt hours of AC electricity per year - Locks in electricity costs for 30 plus years (Colorado rates increases average 3.5% per year) - Trouble free operation with a 25 year warrantee - Pays for itself in under 5 years Community Email This Article Comment On This Article Related Links All About Solar Energy at SolarDaily.com
