Ball and Earthwatch- A Clarification

Washington, DC Jan. 16, 1998 -

Washington, DC Jan. 16, 1998 - SpaceCast wishes to provide readers a clarification concerning the relationship between Ball Aerospace and Earthwatch, Inc. Earthwatch was created in March, 1995 by the merger of the commercial remote sensing efforts of Ball Aerospace & Technologies, Inc. and Worldview Imaging Corp.

Ball, as a result, is a equity partner in Earthwatch, Inc. Additional partners in the venture include Hitachi, Ltd., Datron Systems Inc., Nuova Telespazio s.p.a., CTA, Inc. (now Orbital Sciences Corp.), and MacDonald, Dettwiler, & Associates, Ltd.

Ball Aerospace is the maker only of the gimbal and payload targeting mirror for Earlybird 1. The satellite's builder is CTA, Inc., now Orbital Sciences Corp.of Dulles, Va. We hope that this clarification corrects any impression about the relationship between the two firms that may have been made by any earlier report by this news service.
