BAE Wins Billion-Dollar US Defence Contracts
London (AFP) Oct 10, 2006 British group BAE Systems announced on Tuesday that it has won a clutch of US government defence contracts potentially worth 1.2 billion dollars (957 million euros) in value. The group said it received a 450-million-dollar contract from the US government to provide "performance-based solutions to reengineer and remanufacture obsolete aircraft parts for the US Navy and other government agencies". Work on the new contract would begin immediately and will be performed by BAE Systems operations around the world. BAE also said it has won a 132-million-dollar Concepts and Operations for Space and Missile Defense Integration Capabilities (COSMIC) contract from the US Army. Under the COSMIC contract, BAE will provide engineering, maintenance and support services to the US Army Space and Missile Defense Future Warfare Center. The total cumulative value of the 10-year COSMIC contract could reach 482 million dollars if all options were exercised, BAE said. The defence group added that it has also received a 87-million-dollar ship repair contract from the US Navy. But the total worth of the multi-ship multi-option contract could reach 270 million dollars.
