New Orleans (SPX) Apr 19, 2005 Axonn has size-reduced its satellite transmitter to a mere 19 square centimeters (3 square inches) enabling more new applications for remote data telemetry than ever before. The new transmitter, known as the STX2, measures 5.85 cm x 3.25 cm x 0.5 cm. The STX2 replaces Axonn's existing simplex transmitter that has sold over 25,000 devices in the past 2 years. The transmitters operate over the Globalstar simplex data telemetry service in a transmit-only fashion. "The highly integrated transmitter enables data collection from remote sites globally. Operating over the Globalstar LEO simplex network at low power, this represents the fundamentally lowest cost method for collecting data over any satellite network," stated Gary Naden, Axonn Vice-President. "This is the beginning of global tracking and monitoring devices that are the relative size of a deck of cards including antenna, battery and custom circuitry. Nobody else has a transmitter at this size, capability and price-point." Prototypes are shipping today, and Axonn is currently taking bulk orders for volume deliveries in July. The STX2 is 40% of the size of the predecessor transmitter that is currently operating in a variety of products such as the AXTracker asset management device. Operating at 3.3V and surface mount, the new transmitter removes much of the cost of integration by removing all cabling and connectors in the finished product. Axonn designs, manufactures and sells the transmitters through direct sales out of its New Orleans, LA office. "We are pleased to offer this cost-effective satellite telemetry product at a fraction of any other satellite communications device," stated Bob Olsavsky, Axonn General Manager. "Our single unit quantity prices start below the volume price-points of our closest competitor." Axonn will incorporate the new transmitter into its successful AXTracker product starting in the third quarter of 2005. The new transmitter offers a reduction in power, size and complexity to manufacture.
