Ariane Lofts US TV Sat

Kourou - September 25, 1999 -
An Ariane 44LP has successfully launched the Telstar 7 digital TV satellite for Loral Skynet at 3:29am local time (2.29am EDT).

Flight 121 utilized the Ariana 44LP with two liquid-propellant and two solid-propellant strap-on boosters. It with was the fifth successful mission for Arianespace in 1999.

When it enters service later this year, Telstar 7 will host a robust cable programming schedule anchored by Time Warner Cable's AthenaTV. The cable neighborhood on Telstar 7 will join the broadcast, syndication and distance learning service previously established on the currently orbiting Telstar 4, 5, and 6 satellites.

Manufactured by Space Systems/Loral, Telstar 7 will cover the continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and into the Caribbean and Latin America from its orbital slot at 129(degree) West Longitude.

The satellite carries a total of 48 transponders -- 24 at C-band and 24 at Ku-band. Its design is based on SS/L's three-axis, body-stabilized FS-1300 bus, which has proven its worth during more than 300 years of cumulative on-orbit service, close to one-half of the total of nearly 700 plus years amassed by all SS/L satellites to date.

The mission was scheduled rapidly to meet the customer's timing requirements, and utilized an Ariane 44LP version of the workhorse Ariane 4 launcher family.

"Arianespace stepped up to provide this launch for Space Systems/Loral on very short notice, " Arianespace Chairman and CEO Jean-Marie Luton said.

"Because of the Ariane launch system's flexibility, we were able to handle the mission on an emergency basis, without penalizing our other customers. "Ariane's proven reliability and availability allows operators to deal with the unexpected events that crop up in the space industry, and assures them that Arianespace is there to meet their commercial commitments," said Luton.

The next Arianespace launch, Flight 122, is slated for October 19. An Ariane 44LP will loft the Orion 2 communications satellite for Loral Space & Communications. Following the successful completion of Flight 121, Arianespace's backlog now stands at 41 satellites to be launched.

Satellite Launch To Boost DTH In India
Calcutta, India (SPX) Dec 28, 2005
The successful launch Thursday of India's heaviest satellite from spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana may have boosted the country's space research efforts to yet another level, but it has also lifted the spirits of at least three Direct-To-Home televisions broadcasters, one of which has been waiting for years to launch its services in India.
