AgustaWestland's Polish subsidiary PZL-Swidnik is suing Poland's Ministry of Defense following the failure of its bid to supply the country with AW 149 helicopters.

According to Radio Poland, PZL-Swidnik's believes there were "serious breaches" in the tender procedure, but the alleged breaches "couldn't be discussed publicly due to their delicate character."

"We are deeply convinced that these injustices and breaches, which are included in the law suit, are in contradiction to the principles of competition, leading to a decision being taken that is not in the best interest of the Armed Forces of the Polish Republic, the Polish air sector and Polish taxpayers," Radio Poland quoted a company statement.

PZL Swidnik was one of three companies bidding to supply Poland's Army with some 70 helicopters. The others were PZL Mielec, a Sikorsky subsidiary offering the S-70i Blackhawk helicopter, and Airbus Helicopters, maker of the EC725 Caracal.

The Airbus EC 725 was chosen by the Ministry of Defense for testings and second stage negotiations are taking place.

"The applications of PZL-Mielec and PZL-Swidnik were declined by the government for '"formal reasons,'" Radio Poland reported.
