The delivery of eight AW139 medium-lift twin-engine helicopters to the Italian Police has been completed by AgustaWestland.

The helicopters, designated as the UH-139C by the Italian Police are now in service at five bases around the country, the company said, and have logged more than 1,500 flight hours.

"The completion of deliveries marks a major milestone to enhance the rotorcraft capabilities of the Italian Police," AgustaWestland said this week. "Close cooperation between the customer and the company led to the development of a dedicated mission configuration and a comprehensive range of support and training services."

The deliveries were completed at the end of last year, the company said.

The AW139 has a maximum speed of 193 mph and a range of more than 600 miles. The configuration of the aircraft for the Italian Police included a high-definition forward-looking infrared radar, satellite communication system, searchlight, rescue hoist, cabin mission console and a high-definition video downlink.

A total of 31 AW139s are now being operated by Italian government agencies, including its coast guard and air force.
