San Francisco (AFP) Jul 20, 2006 US computer chip maker Intel announced a management shake-up Thursday on the heels of a lackluster earnings report and the laying off of 1,000 managers at its facilities worldwide. "As part of the thorough analysis of Intel begun in April, we have examined the focus and structure of our top management level, including our use of 'two-in-a-box' co-managers," Intel president Paul Otellini said in a release. "The moves announced today will help us speed decision making and bring new resources to bear in critical areas, while allowing me to spend more time on key strategic issues." Channel Platforms Group general manager William Siu and Software and Solutions Group vice president Richard Wirt will retire, Intel said. Sean Maloney will become executive vice president of Intel's sales and marketing group and oversee Channel group until a replacement for Siu is named, according to the Santa Clara, California, company. Vice president Renee James will manage Software and Solutions, according to Intel. Donald MacDonald will become vice president of Marketing and Brands under Maloney. Senior vice president Anand Chandrasekher will head a new unit specializing in low-power products and "the ultra-mobile" personal computer market. Senior vice president Eric Kim will manage Intel's Digital Home Group, the company indicated.
