IBM makes Earth-friendly plastic from plants
San Francisco (AFP) March 9, 2010IBM researchers on Tuesday said they have discovered a way to make Earth-friendly plastic from plants that could replace petroleum-based products tough on the environment. The breakthrough promises biodegradable plastics made in a way that saves on energy, according to Chandrasekhar "Spike" Narayan, a manager of science and technology at IBM's Almaden Research Center in Northern California. ... more S.Korea unveils 'recharging road' for eco-friendly buses
Seoul (AFP) March 9, 2010South Korean researchers Tuesday launched an environmentally friendly public transport system using a "recharging road" - with a vehicle sucking power magnetically from buried electric strips. The Online Electric Vehicle (OLEV), towing three buses, went into service at an amusement park in southern Seoul. If the prototype proves successful, there are plans to try it out on a bus route in th ... more Worlds Most Usefull Tree Provides Low-Cost Water Purification
Washington DC (SPX) Mar 08, 2010A low-cost water purification technique published in Current Protocols in Microbiology could help drastically reduce the incidence of waterborne disease in the developing world. Galaxy Study Validates General Relativity On Cosmic ScaleBerkeley CA (SPX) Mar 11, 2010 An analysis of more than 70,000 galaxies by University of California, Berkeley, University of Zurich and Princeton University physicists demonstrates that the universe - at least up to a distance of 3.5 billion light years from Earth - plays by the rules set out 95 years ago by Albert Einstein in his General Theory of Relativity. By calculating the clustering of these galaxies, which stretch nearly one-third of the way to the edge of the universe, and analyzing their velocities and distortion from ... read more |
