Toyota's safety recall goes global

Toyota's coveted safety record took a major new hit Thursday as a massive recall caused by an accelerator problem grew in the United States and spread to Europe and China for the first time. Toyota raced past US giant General Motors in 2008 to become the world's top-selling automaker, but it has been bedevilled by a series of safety issues that have raised questions about whether its quality control has suffered. Microbe produces biofuel from biomass

U.S. scientists say they have developed a microbe that can produce an advanced biofuel directly from biomass. Toyota to recall 75,000 vehicles in China: safety watchdog

China's product safety watchdog said Thursday Toyota would recall over 75,000 automobiles in the Asian nation, extending a programme that has already affected millions of vehicles in the United States. The recall in China involves the RAV4 sport utility vehicle, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.
