Convergence Ethanol has delivered its latest Intelligent Filtration System (IFS) to Chevron's El Segundo, Calif. oil refinery. This advanced filtration system improves the production of cleaner-burning, reduced-sulfur motor fuel, supporting refinery environmental improvement goals.

Born of fourteen years' oil and gas filtration engineering experience, IFS integrates previously separate units into a dynamic filtration system. Engineered for ease of operation and maintenance, it gives the refinery exceptional and coordinated control. Ecological benefits of the energy-efficient design include a dramatic reduction in the volume of hazardous waste.

"The advantages of IFS speak to our ultimate goal of helping customers achieve a higher-quality fuel product at lower environmental and financial costs," said James A. Latty, Ph.D., PE, president and CEO of Convergence Ethanol.

This IFS system has been delivered on budget and before scheduled installation, thanks to disciplined project management. "The transition from engineering design to production was rapid and seamless," said Nathan Lortz, general manager of Lortz Manufacturing Co. of Bakersfield, Calif., a company responsible for a large portion of fabrication and assembly.

"Convergence Ethanol's manufacturing network combines the best technology from around the globe with the highest-quality fabrication and allows for rapid expansion of customer production capacity. We've engineered IFS to be the new benchmark for refinery filtration," said Dr. Latty. "We have a sophisticated manufacturing network to make that possible."

California-based Convergence Ethanol is a biorenewable energy project developer and an ISO 9001:2000-certified provider of engineered products and systems to the energy industry. The company mission is to support the energy industry's production of cleaner-burning fuels.
