Washington DC (UPI) Feb 22, 2025

One person died and another person was injured -- both Air Force members -- at an entrance to Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday.

Around 2 a.m. MST, KAFB security personnel responded to the shooting at the Truman Gate, the base said in a news release.

The wounded airman was treated and released. The other airman died at the scene, according to the release.

There is no threat to the public or base personnel at this time though the Truman Gate is closed until further notice.

The cause of death and the incident are under investigation by local authorities and the FBI.

The base is the sixth largest in the United States.
