Two die in Spanish forest fire Madrid, Aug 4, 2006 A man and a woman died trapped in their car on Friday as they tried to flee a forest fire in northwestern Spain, Spanish radio reported. Firefighters trying to douse the flames discovered the victims' burnt out Renault Megane at Cercedo, some 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of the regional capital of Santiago de Compostela, Cadena Ser radio reported. The fire forced the closure of a four-kilometre stretch of a main road as the flames threatened to spread to nearby villages, according to local newspaper La Voz de Galicia. The paper said it appeared the victims' car had become stuck in a ditch as they tried to escape.
