Israeli air raid hits southern Beirut Beirut, Aug 4, 2006 Israeli warplanes hit southern Beirut, stronghold of the Shiite Muslim Hezbollah movement, for the second consecutive night, police said early Friday. Two missiles were fired at the Rweiss and Haret-Hreik districts, they said. Rweiss, which had initially been spared, was first targeted the previous night after a week's respite in strikes on the capital's suburbs. Haret-Hreik and Bir al-Abed, where Hezbollah's headquarters is located, were pounded for two weeks at the start of the Israeli offensive launched against Lebanon on July 12 and are in ruins.
