Spanish jazz homage to New Orleans Madrid, Aug 3, 2006 Spain's eastern city of Alicante will Friday host a jazz tribute to the city of New Orleans, which last August was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, organisers of the Xabia Jazz Festival said. An all-star line-up at the festival, organised by the Alicante Music Institute, will welcome several jazz musicians from New Orleans, some of whom suffered personal loss in the aftermath of Katrina. A trad jazz programme entitled The Spirit of New Orleans comprising musicians from the city went on tour last November. Buoyed by that tour's success, New Orleans Jazz Giants trumpeter Mark Braud has again brought together a range of musicians including trombonist Lucien Barbarin, clarinettist Orange Kellin, pianist Steve Pistorious and drummer Shannon Powell for the occasion, the Europa Press news agency reported. Singer and former New Orleans 'musical ambassador' Lillian Boutt is also on the bill.
